Sitges is one of the loveliest towns on the Catalan coast — seventeen beaches, a white old town, and a seafront made for slow evenings. It is also, for much of the year, busy. In high summer the streets fill, parking turns into a small daily defeat, and the quiet you came for can be hard to find after dark.
So a lot of people arrive at the same question: how do you stay near Sitges without staying in the middle of it? This is an honest guide to doing exactly that — basing yourself just outside, in the Penedès countryside, with the beach and the town a short drive away. We run one such place, Masia Can Pares, and we'll be clear about where it fits and where it doesn't.
The trade
Staying in the centre means you walk to everything and lose nothing to the car. For a two- or three-night break, that is the right call. The cost only shows over a longer stay, or with a family or a group: the rooms are small, the nights are loud, and a town built for visitors rarely feels like your own.
Move ten minutes inland and the maths flips. You trade the front-door beach for a short drive, and in return you get space, silence, a pool that isn't shared with a hundred strangers, and a garden to spend the unhurried middle of the day in. The beach is still there in the evening. The difference is that you choose when to have the crowds, instead of waking up inside them.

The town is the draw for a reason — seventeen beaches, the seafront promenade, the white old town and a long, easy café culture. Stay in the centre and you walk to everything. The trade is the obvious one: in summer and during Carnival or the film festival it is full, parking is hard, and a quiet night is not guaranteed. Lovely for two or three days; tiring for a week.

Just inland, the land opens into vineyards and low hills the moment you leave the coast road. Basing yourself here buys space, silence and a pool, while leaving Sitges ten minutes away when you want it. This is where the masias are — country houses you can take whole, with room for a family or a group and a garden that belongs to you for the stay.

The next town along is bigger, more working-Catalan and less polished than Sitges, with its own broad beaches and a real harbour. Between the two sits the Garraf natural park — pine, limestone and sea cliffs, good for walking and cycling. A calmer, less touristed stretch of coast if the postcard version of Sitges is not what you are after.
